Also known as edited sprites, in some cases.
I've made quite a few "custom" sprites. I'll upload more as I find/create them.
First off, I've made some edits of sprites from New Super Mario Bros.; specifically, the DS version.
I recently made an edit of the extra item slot sprite of the Fire Flower to make it have the colors of the transgender flag. I took colors from the graphic for World 5 and a screenshot of the game with Princess Peach in it.
Additionally, I edited the same Fire Flower sprite to make a custom Ice Flower sprite! I think it turned out really well. Also, the Ice Flower should totally appear in more Mario games.
I've also edited the graphics of the worlds from New Super Mario Bros. to make custom worlds. I think they look rather nice. You'll see some of them in my Super Mario Maker 2 Super World page, too.
Some of them are technically just palette swaps, but come on, I like them.
Yes, they are actually this small. I was surprised, too.
And while I'm still on the topic of New Super Mario Bros., I made two sprites of wide question blocks in a New Super Mario Bros. style! They're the default and Underground palettes.
I made a custom Star Coin sprite that's an edited version of the 10 Coin sprite from Super Mario Maker 2. In this case, it is in the Super Mario Bros. style, and uses its respective Super Star sprite as a basis for the star in the center.
I also made a Super Mario Bros. 3 version too.
Again, like the Super Mario Bros. version, I used the respective Super Star sprite for this version, too; however, it was altered slightly to fit.
Initially, I was doubting that I'd make a Super Mario World styled Star Coin, but look here, I've done it anyway! I altered the Super Mario World Super Star sprite slightly so that it would center properly, but I think it's well made! This Star Coin sprite will appear in other parts of the site.
Speaking of Super Mario World, I edited the sprite of the Fuzzy from said game to make it less... flat? It has more colors now. I mean, the Bob-omb had its sprites altered for the Super Mario Maker series, so if Fuzzies appear in a Super Mario Maker game, I feel the Super Mario World versions would be edited to be more colorful.
Also, for the express purpose of adding sprites for my Super World cheat sheets, I've made custom sprites for all of the power-ups that appear in it. With the exception of the Frog Suit, Cape Feather and Power Balloon, I made completely original sprites; the Power Balloon and Frog Suit are edited versions of their Super Mario Maker 2 versions and the Cape Feather is closely based off of its Super Mario World/Super Mario Maker 2 sprites, but I didn't directly edit said sprites.
From left to right, they are the Big Mushroom, Boomerang Flower, Buzzy Shellmet, Cannon Box, Cape Feather, Fire Flower, Frog Suit, Power Balloon, Propeller Box, Propeller Mushroom, SMB2 Mushroom, Spiny Shellmet, Super Acorn, Superball Flower, Super Bell, Super Hammer, Super Leaf, Super Mushroom, and Super Star.
I also made icons for each course theme in Super Mario Maker 2 and a few extras, too. They'll be more present in the future, but for now they're just going to sit here.
From left to right, they are Ground (Overworld), Underground, Underwater, Desert, Snow, Sky, Forest, Ghost House, Airship, Castle, Volcano, Beach, Mountain, Tower, Savannah, Space, Autumn, and Sewer.
There are two hazards in the Mario series that I've made sprites for in different styles. The first one is the Chainsaw, which I made sprites in the Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 styles.
The other is the Roto-Disc, again in the Super Mario Bros. style but now also in the Super Mario World style. I took a bit of creative liberty on the Super Mario World one, making the Roto-Disc less of a radioactive waffle and more of a glass orb with fire in it.
I also made a 16x16 Crazy 8 sprite based on its appearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Alright, so this is a bit long. Something I'm a little upset about is how there's no Volcano theme in Super Mario Maker 2. That doesn't make the game bad, but it would definitely improve the game in my opinion. I've made some edits of tiles from the Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World styles of Super Mario Maker (2) to make them fit a Volcano theme. The Super Mario Bros. 3 style is below the Super Mario Bros. style, and the Super Mario World style is below that.
Here's a custom scene I made using the Super Mario Bros. Volcano theme tiles!
The background is a modified version of the Super Mario Bros. Desert theme from Super Mario Maker 2. The ground decorations are edited from the Underground theme.
And here's the Super Mario Bros. 3 sprites. I'll make a few more as necessary, but to be honest I don't need to make that many aside from a bunch of ground blocks since Castle assets could be reused; however, I'm not making more ground tiles right now and I'll instead wait until I want to flesh it out a bit more. Maybe I'll make full levels in pixel art at some point?
And here's the same scene from above, but in the Super Mario Bros. 3 style.
The background is a modified version of the Super Mario Bros. 3 Forest theme from Super Mario Maker 2. The ground decorations are edited from the Underground theme here, too.
Now it's Super Mario World time! The ground tiles surprised me, because I didn't know that they tile after three tiles rather than one like the previous two styles. Also, there's only two semisolids this time because I feel the bone semisolid from the Underground theme would work well here.
Finally, here's the scene in the Super Mario World style! I'm really proud with how it turned out.
The background is another modified Desert theme background. I think that with the recoloring, it works out well- either that, or I don't actually know how good it is. Surprisingly, I had a difficult time finding the right color for the sky. I stuck with a deep blue in the end to make it more ominous. As per usual, the ground decorations are once again from the Underground theme.
A different theme I think should be in Super Mario Maker 2 is the Mountain theme. I haven't made much in this theme yet, but I do have a ground tile and a semisolid in the Super Mario Bros. style. I think this will be the only new semisolid for this style in the Super Mario Bros. style since I think the grassy mushroom semisolid from the Ground theme and the bone semisolid from the Castle theme could both work in the Mountain theme.
Taking a break from Mario for a minute, I've also made some copy ability portraits in the Kirby's Adventure style.
So far, I've made portraits for Cleaning, Copy, and Ninja, none of which were in the original Kirby's Adventure.
Oh yeah, I also made an extremely tiny trans flag sprite, because of course I did.
It's only 10x5 pixels and is only 88 bytes large! Like I said, extremely tiny.
Speaking of trans, I made a palette swap of Kirby's sprite from Kirby's Adventure that uses trans pride colors. I'm really happy with it, though maybe I'll make another version with different shades of colors in the future sometime.
I've made some custom sprites of all of the main weapons in Splatoon and Splatoon 2! There's far too many to flood this area with, so they get their own page here.
